:Fantasy: G-Unit’s Kidd Kidd gives us his spill on the obstacles that he has overcome, his inspiration behind his new hit song “Shooting Guns,” and what it feels like to be connected with 50 Cent. He wants to give back to the city of New Orleans once he becomes a millionaire. Kidd Kidd feels that he is somewhat a reflection of the late great Souljah Slim and when Souljah passed, he passed him the baton to press on for New Orleans, and soar to greater heights.

Q:Fantasy: Who are you? What city are you from? List your skills and your personal definition of each skill (i.e. DJ, A&R, etc.)

A:DJ Bay: Where do I start??? ((LOL)) Ok… I am Terrance “DJ Bay” Long. I was born raised and currently reside in Memphis, TN. I am a club/event/mix-show/mix-tape DJ. I am also a music producer, director of digital marketing and New Media and A&R rep at one of the largest independent labels and music distributors in the country (Select-O-Hits music distribution). My skills, as far as being a good DJ, consist of recognizing good music. I’m very knowledgeable of all genres of music. I have the ability to read a crowd in the club and within event settings and connect people with good music through mix-tapes, etc. I’m a constant student of the game being a DJ helps a lot with being an A&R it helps me filter through music. What’s hot, who’s not and who I should reach out to in order to see if I could assist them in taking their career to the next level. Professionalism is a very important skill that I maintain. The “know how” in building relationships… is a skill that is required and getting the job done no matter what… no excuses!!!

Q:Fantasy: You’re a ten year veteran within the music scene. How much have you evolved? A seven year old approaches you about becoming a DJ… he has no training. Where does he begin? What type of equipment should he buy? What’s the best way to capture and hold his audience’s attention?

A:DJ Bay: Now with the technology… it’s easier to become a DJ equipment is inexpensive, but good turntables would be a good start for a seven year old. The use of vinyl records and learning the Serato’s, but the first thing that I would advise him to do is study… study… study. He should learn the history of DJ’ing and its importance. Study music, study how to mix, study DJ’s like Kidd Capri, DJ Jazzy Jeff and other pioneers. Study how they created their own personalities as DJ’s. Find the personality that suits you, learn how to scratch, bring that personality out on the mic and rock the party. Most importantly… never give up. Persistence is the key! Take advantage of all good opportunities and build good working relationships.

Q:Fantasy: What’s your favorite color? Why? How much do you know about the science of colors? If you could be an animal, bird or insect which would you choose? Why? What about this choice is symbolic of who you are and will become in the future?

A:DJ Bay: My favorite color is red and I look damn good in it too. ((LOL)) I know a little bit about the science of colors; not much. I would be an eagle. Eagles are bold, fearless, big, fast and smart. They can go get whatever they want and they can fly… that’s so amazing.

Q:Fantasy: Your closest friends and family have left you. You did something that they truly disapprove of… you must mix the soundtrack of a lifetime. This track must be apologetic, a real tear jerker, empowering, and inspirational. Which artist’s song have you chosen? Who besides the artists will cover the lyrics? Why?

A:DJ Bay: It’s been a while (staind) Man in the mirror (Michael Jackson) When I get where I’m going ( Brad Paisley and dolly Pardon) What hurts the most (Rascal Flats) My sacrifice (Creed) Never give up (Yolanda Adams) Give me a sign(DMX) Redemption song (Bob Marley) Dear mama (Tupac) Keep the faith (Michael Jackson) Never would have made it (Marvin Sapp) Stand (Donnie Mc Clurkin) Pray for forgiveness (Alicia Keys) Nobody knows (The Tony rich Project). Honestly, I would have to go with the original artist(s) to cover the track. I don’t think I could feel the same way or my emotions wouldn’t be delivered properly… without the voices of the original artist(s).

Q:Fantasy: I’ve had several individuals throughout my life thus far, that have groomed me into the ultimate hustler. Who has had the most influence over your career? Who believed in you when you didn’t believe in yourself?

A:DJ Bay: My father, whom was a DJ, believed in me, but I would have to say that my mom believed in me the most. She’s a very spiritual, loving and caring person. She always knows what to say and when.

Q:Fantasy: At an event you meet a teen that says he’s your biggest fan. He has patiently awaited the event’s end just to get your autograph and to have a few words with you. You can see that his eyes are puffy and red as if he had been crying. You ask, “What’s wrong?” He has lost his mother and father to a car accident a week ago. He doesn’t want to eat, sleep or interact with anyone other than you. How will you help him get through such a tough time?

A:DJ Bay: I would take him under my wing and try to be a big brother to him… help guide him in the right direction through encouragement and love. We all feel alone from time to time so I would do my best to fill that void and let him know that he’s not alone and that if he could get through this tough time… he could get through anything.

Q:Fantasy: What have you prayed for constantly that has finally happened for you? How did you mentally prepare for it?

A:DJ Bay: During stages of my career in the music business I remember I was in a bad space with how things were going during those particular points in time. I knew that I had given my all and I wasn’t going to let it go and move on to something else. One day, one phone call changed my life and lead me to where I am today. I prayed for years… I knew in my heart that I was meant to be in the music business. In reality, it wasn’t going the way that I wanted it to. Mentally I prayed; I worked very, changed my focus and my way of thinking. I lined myself up with God, the universe. Through meditation I changed my thoughts into winning ones removing all negative thoughts. I faced my fears and asked prayed to God for continued guidance.

Q:Fantasy: Recently, on Twitter, a few of my followers were having online discussions about what is considered to be a good date vs. an expensive date. Do you believe that spending $200 on a date is too much? Why? Should women pay for dates?

A:DJ Bay: It’s not too much. It depends on how long I’ve been dating her and the direction that I feel the relationship is headed in. I think that both men and women should pay for dates.

I’m old fashion when it comes to dating men should pay for more dates than women.

Q:Fantasy: Do you believe that social networking sites are more addictive than drugs and alcohol? Why? There are several cool apps that were created that keep you connected to the most popular social networking sites by synchronization. Do you own a smart phone? Approximately how many times per day do you check your Face Book, Twitter, etc.

A:DJ Bay: Social networking can be addictive, but not more than drugs and alcohol. I think that we all should balance our time on social networking before they becomes a serious problem. Yeah, I love both my IPhone and android. They help me out in so many ways when it comes to business. Everything is at my fingertips. I check my Twitter more than my Face Book. I may be on Twitter 20 times a day vs approximately 3 times per week on Face Book.

Q:Fantasy: How do you feel after being interviewed? What have your fans learned about you?

A:DJ Bay: I loved it! Thank you, Fantasy! My fans should learn that I’m very open minded, spiritual, caring, fun, full of love, and approachable. I’m always willing to help, but you have to be serious and know that my time is valuable.

“Come on and tell your friends, to tell their friends to come on down to the Avenue!”Q:Fantasy: When was the Avenue Bar & Restaurant established? Who is Ruby “Ruby Baby” Singleton & Jeff Singleton? Give us a timeline history lesson on your establishment; from the very moment that it opened its doors.

A:Nicole Dotson: Mrs. Ruby L. Singleton acquired the bar and restaurant in September of 1992. She ran day to day operations for years. My father, Jeff Singleton, joined her in the run of the business after he retired from the Domino Sugar Refinery. The business was very successful.

Q:Fantasy: What is the bar business like? What type of clientele are you seeking to attract? What’s your age limit? Is there a specific dress code that is currently enforced?

A:Nicole Dotson: The “Ave Bar” is a place where one can come w/friends and make new friends. It is a nice establishment where the grown and sexy (25 and older)*3 can come to relax and feel safe as if they were at home. There is no specific dress code. However, we ask the ladies to dress appropriately.

Q:Fantasy: During ladies night the ladies have a blast! They bus stop, wobble-wobble, etc. Why do you feel that it’s necessary to have a night that’s strictly dedicated to women?

A:Nicole Dotson: Ladies Nite is held every Thurs. We offer a special drink for the ladies, “ruby red house special”. We also do not forget about the men, we have $2 domestic beer from 6p-8p

Q:Fantasy: There are DJ’s on specific nights what type of music can your clients expect to hear?

A:Nicole Dotson: Yes we have DJ’s. Whatever the customer would like to hear, they try their best to play it if they have it – R & B, Blues, Hip Hop, bounce (not too much), etc.You have pool tournaments on Thursdays… how can the pool sharks get involved? Do these tournaments take place at the Avenue every Thursday night?

A:Nicole Dotson: Pool tournaments are held currently on Wed at 8 pm. Tourneys are at various other bars, club, etc. They belong to the APA league and held every other Thurs. No more tournaments til 2012. Pool sharks can get involved by joining a team in the League.

Q:Fantasy: You have a menu that serves some of New Orleans most popular dishes. What would you say are the Avenue’s top two signature dishes? What type of customer feedback have you received?

A:Nicole Dotson: Yacamein and Fried Chicken. We get gr8 compliments on our yacamein and chicken. Feedback is great. Folks eat it and always bring some1 back to try it.

Q:Fantasy: How do you envision your business over the next five years, the next decade. Do you have any closing remarks for the new clientele that you’re seeking to attract and your existing customers? Besides the physical address and telephone number of the Avenue Bar & restaurant are there any other ways that you can be reached (i.e. facebook, twitter, etc.)?

A:Nicole Dotson: Avebarandrest on Facebook
Over the next 5 years, I would like the business to more successful w/major improvements. New clients looking for a new spot…. Come in meet, drink and be merry. If you drink too much, we will see to it that you get home safely.

Q:Fantasy: “Eddie Francis…” that name alone needs no introduction. I’ve been hearing it for so many years. What was life like for you as a child? How about now? You are known to our audience as the man that wears many hats. Describe those hats. Are any of them heavy enough to cause stress? What do you do to prevent stress? What is your favorite skill? Why?

A:Eddie Francis: No intro? Really? I didn’t know that. Thanks for the opportunity!

My brother and sister always tell me that I was a funny kid. I can believe that, because I remember entertaining my parents and their friends with little singing recitals. I’m sure I was damn good.

Right now, my life goes 100 mph. On a day-to-day basis, I’m the director of public relations at Southern University at New Orleans. This job consists of marketing, social media, sports information, publications management, and management of SUNO.edu (the university’s website). On the weekends, I produce and co-host “Real Talk” on Q93, and I also co-produce and contribute to “Sunday Journal” on 98.5-WYLD. Every now and then, I’ll MC events, do a little stand-up, or do my very first love, speaking.

The most stressful of all is managing a university web site. People think that web management is an easy sit-behind-the-desk thing, but a university’s web site has hundreds of pages and levels. A good amount of strategy and organization go into creating and maintaining a web site. It’s very demanding stuff, man.

I don’t do such a good job preventing stress. I’m very competitive, so I can be wound pretty tightly about life sometimes. In order to alleviate stress, I use my weekends to really kick back. Oh man, Thanksgiving weekend, I did as little as possible. Heaven! The best weekends are the ones that are spent with my little dude. Kids remind you of just how cool life is when you’re having fun.

My absolute favorite skill is public speaking, by far. When I’m in front of a group of people doing a speech, a workshop, MCing, running my mouth on the radio, or doing stand-up, it’s like a drug. I can’t get enough of it. The bigger the audience, the better. The best thing is the reaction I get when people feel what I’m saying, they’re learning from what I’m saying, or they’re enjoying what I’m doing.

Q:Fantasy: We all have different routines. How often do you stick to those routines? Are you an organized individual or do you just go with the flow? Explain. Considering that you are so busy how much “me” time do you get? What do you do during this time?

A:Eddie Francis: The only routine I really have is cooking breakfast just about every morning. Procrastination is something I routinely do, though.

The only time I’m even remotely organized is at work. In my personal life, I go with the flow.
Actually, I get a lot of “me” time. My “me” time is just as simple as relaxation. I watch TV or waste time online. The one thing that I ‘m beginning to do more of… is read. Right now I’m reading a very cool marketing book called “Why Johnny Can’t Brand.” It’s a really great read. It talks about the importance of having a laser focus on the kinds of messages, companies and organizations that are needed when it comes to marketing efforts. The other thing I try to do during my “me” time is cook. I love to cook… and a brother can do his thing in the kitchen!

Q:Fantasy: You’re invited to an industry pajama party! You’re told to wear your pj’s, but to be stylish and to make a fashion statement. Describe the type of pj’s you will wear, from head to toe, and how you will dress them up to chart a trend. Be creative!

A:Eddie Francis: Hmmm, do they still make underoos? I would wear Batman underoos. I think I could make a mask and cape to go with them.

Q:Fantasy: New Orleans is the murder capital. You’re called upon to organize a march and to prepare a speech that will change this. This speech will make history. You are allowed three African- American advisors to assist you… who will they be? Why? You’re granted the opportunity to interview Minister Farrakhan as your first advisor. Considering the success of the Million Man March… what three questions would you ask him? Why?

A:Eddie Francis: This is a cool question. My advisors would be all New Orleans men–Bro. Willie Muhammad of the New Orleans Peace Keepers, Victor Sims who is a licensed clinical social worker, and Terry Clay who’s known for his “Addicted to the Lifestyle” workshops. I’ve had the privilege of doing radio interviews with all three of these guys, and they really get into the guts of what brothers on the streets are thinking when they do what they do.

Now if I had the opportunity to chat with Minister Farrakhan, which I would love to do, I would ask him the following: What’s different about today’s Black man than 20 years ago? What role do Black women play in supporting Black men, emotionally, these days? How can we make education more appealing to the Black community?

:Fantasy: Insert the first paragraph of your speech, that you have prepared from the above question, here_________.

A:Eddie Francis: “We are all sheep. We are allowing ourselves to be led wherever others want us to go. We are accepting slaughter as an alternative to living life and building healthy communities. We act as if we CANNOT make it from point A to point B without someone else’s permission, and we seem to be perfectly OK with this. We allow the real fighters to fight alone while the rest of us sit by and hope that problems will magically disappear. I’m sure you have a problem with those first few sentences. Since I have your attention, I’m prepared to analyze the problem and talk solutions today. But it won’t be easy. There are no easy solutions to complex problems. I’m not a sheep and neither are you. You and I are living, breathing human beings with children, lives, and hope.”

Q:Fantasy: There’s a new reality show called “Dare Devil Pitfall!” There’s a million dollars up for grabs in order to get it you will________. Why? ((LMAO))

A:Bungee jump naked screaming good morning Vietnam on national television without a parachute!

B: Eat a porcupine.

C: Make love in a deep freezer to a pot roast for 24hrs.

A:Eddie Francis: Aw, that’s easy. I’ll do the bungee jump butt “nekkid!” There’s nothing like winning a million dollars while feeling as freeeeeeee as a bird, letting it all hang out and flapping in the breeze. Besides, porcupine meat is probably nasty and the pot roast probably won’t be a good kisser. I like to kiss.

Q:Fantasy: What is your definition of a strong woman? Women are running for president and the ball is in your court. Who will you elect for president? Who’s her vice president? Who’s the secretary of state? Why?

A:Eddie Francis: A strong woman shows her intelligence regardless of her level of education. She is someone that has a sense of humor, who is focused, tolerant of men and our foibles, and tough yet compassionate, as well as, affectionate. That woman also looks at every man for who he is as opposed to judging him on what the last knucklehead did. The biggest thing is she doesn’t talk garbage about having these qualities. She shows you better than she can tell you. Quiet confidence is elegant and sexy to me.

For President, I would elect Hillary Clinton to take the baton from President Obama at this point. She’s prepared her entire adult life for it. Give me Mayor Cory Booker for VP, and Donna Brazile as Secretary of State. Donna brags about her Gumbo, so I think that could solve a lot of foreign affairs issues.

Q:Fantasy: You’re sent to Japan for a year to study the culture, technology and to learn the language. Your mission is to create something that will receive world wide acclaim and can be used across the globe by people of all ages. What will you create? Explain your choice.

A:Eddie Francis: My creation would be a software that would deliver shock treatment to people who procrastinate. I’d be the first to buy it when I decided to get up off my ass and go to the store.

Q:Fantasy: What’s your idea of “The Perfect Sunday?”

A:Eddie Francis: That’s funny, I just talked to someone about this! To give her proper credit, an ex used to encourage me to envision this in order to live a happier and more focused life.

The perfect Sunday begins with me waking up next to my wife (whoever that will be) and getting the day started the right way. Next I’ll cook breakfast in bed for her, and prepare breakfast for the kids. After we all chow down, we’ll go to church. Later, we’ll enjoy Laser Tag or check out a movie. Assuming, that these Sundays aren’t during football season. “If it’s football season, the afternoon belongs to dad and his man cave, but I’ll get in the kitchen with the wife and cook some game food or put steaks on the grill for family or friends that may be visiting.” After the game, we’ll have a family outing. In the late afternoon/early evening, we’ll go out to enjoy dinner. When we get back home, we’ll get the kids to bed and mama had better be ready for daddy.

Q:Fantasy: How do you feel after being interviewed?
A:Eddie Francis: Pretty cool, actually. This was like doing therapy at my own risk.

Q:Fantasy: who are you? What do you do for a living? Or maybe I should ask… Is there anything that you don’t do?

A:Tiger Da Writer: I am writer, philanthropist, artist developer(teaches singing skills, etc.), God fearing, determined man and so much more. I was raised in a small town with a population of approximately 5,500 people called Cheraw, South Carolina. I am also an A&R (M&T Consulting). I’ve always had a passion for music and the freedom that it gives me. I develop artists, producers, song writers, actors and actresses.

Q:Fantasy: You are originally from Cheraw, South Carolina. How was life for you back then? How easy was it for you to balance life and concentrate on the things that you love (i.e. music, etc.)?

A:Tiger Da Writer: Life for me back then… my mother made a way for us as best she could. Although, I didn’t grow up with a father in the household moms always made sure we had. We moved from place to place. Moms didn’t have it like that. We lived in a double wide trailer, the projects, a three bedroom house; we moved around in the same town. As long as I was with my friends it didn’t matter. We had it rough. I recall our lights being off when I came home from school one day and my mom said that there was a power shortage. During grades 5-11 I attended music school. Every summer it was the Alpha Music Program. I graduated in 2002, but I stayed around music and I continued to surround myself with people that motivated or encouraged me. I have so many talents, but there were always positive people/influences throughout my life that helped me stay focused. My big brother Jazz (Dru Hill) played a positive role in helping me come up. I was on myspace.com networking. I would go to Terry Lemon’s(Swift), studio. There was a time when I was a part of a group called L.A.C.E.D. (life after creation =’s eternaIly divine) reached out to Montel Jordan (R&B recording artist). He had an interest in what I set out to accomplish and in turn took a lot of time out with me. He helped me realize what to do. He said “If you can write, write. It’s the quickest way to get into this business.” He schooled me on publishing. I spent a week at his house and went to church with his family. Those moments are priceless. When I met Teddy Riley he said “it’s an honor to meet you.” Producer Easy Mo Bee (has worked with Mary J. bilge, Alicia Keys, etc), Big Bub( wrote My Prerogative- Bobby Brown)and so many others made it easy for me to stay focused and keep my head on the right path. They put a different type of drive in me; being around producer Sir Jinx( produced some of Ice Cube’s albums)as well. When I would be in the studio with Akon(Konvict Music) he told me how he got into the business. Hearing his story made me step my game up even more. I thank God for all of them.

Q:Fantasy: Out of everyone that you’ve met thus far, who’s the one person that you admire the most and why?

A:Tiger Da writer: God. When I first met him he changed my life. He’s the reason that I am where I am today and that’s a fact. When I met him he told me to take that trip to Atlanta. I said God, but I don’t have any money. I asked my cousin for some money. He pulled out a wad of money and gave me $20. He said… “that’s all I have cuz.” I decided to go to Atlanta. We stopped along the way and go something to eat which left me with $15 and some change. I’ve been homeless. I lived out of my Tahoe. I lived in a gym, slept on a yoga mat and covered up with my jacket. I had enough money left over to buy a pack of hot dogs, a loaf of bread and water. Afterwards, I drank only water for about 2 1/2 weeks. I worked and didn’t get paid for two weeks. . I didn’t know anyone here (Atlanta). I was scared to go from the small town of Cheraw, SC into the largely populated city of Atlanta. It was intimidating. I went to hotels and washed up in their bathrooms and would go to studio sessions with Dallas Austin afterwards. I was only supposed to stay in Atlanta for one week. It has been four years and by listening to God and having faith in him… I’m still here. I encourage everyone to meet God. “You’ll never be the same.”

Q:Fantasy: What was on your mind during that time? Did you ever think about giving up… that you wouldn’t pull thru?

A:Tiger Da Writer: I kept saying that I can’t pull thru. I thought about quitting all of the time. When I thought about the promise that I made to God… I said to myself, “you can’t give up because it’s hard even when it appears that there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. I got this burning desire to succeed. I was dedicated, I had faith in God. Turning back is a form of decrease, going forward is a form of increase. I was trying to increase. I didn’t know anyone here(Atlanta). I was scared to go from my small town of a small population to a large one. It was intimidating.

Only the strong survive, the weak will fold. I became more of a doer rather than a thinker. Don’t stay a thinker and allow your dreams to be in vain.

Q:Fantasy: Explain a day in the life of Tiger Da writer? How do you manage to stay awake?

A:Tiger Da Writer: It’s pretty cool. It has its ups and downs; going from being a singer, to a private investor, interviews, conference calls and spending time with family. Making sure I’m the best provider that I can possibly be. “Water&Sex!” keep me awake. ((LOL)) Sometimes I have to force myself to go to sleep. I’m usually up focusing on my goals. “It’s all about my legacy.”

Q:Fantasy: what do you think about style today as opposed to back then? Who are your favorite designers? What is Tiger Da Writer wearing?

A:Tiger Da Writer: I think that most of the clothes/styles from back in the day exists now. Skinny jeans and bell bottoms have been recycled. I believe that both the styles of today and yesterday will become more futuristic/ space-like. I like Kenneth Cole, Adidas, LA fitted-caps, Seven Jeans, Sean John, La Coste, Parish, Perry Ellis, Gucci, Puma; anything that looks good on me. It has to look good and compliment my skin tone. I also wear nice button up shirts and linen attire depending on the weather.

Q:Fantasy: We live in a generation where everyone is on a health kick. What does your diet consist of? Do you work out? How often? What types of exercises do you do? Is there a daily ritual?

A:Tiger Da Writer: I like healthy breakfast. Cheese grits, eggs, turkey bacon, yogurt and fruit. Sometimes for lunch I do a grilled chicken salad. I like to snack on bowls of fruit. I like baked tilapia, steamed broccoli and red cool aid. ((LOL)) I work out at least 5-6 days per week. Calistenics are a part of my daily ritual. I stretch, do sit- ups, push- ups, lunges and standing squats. I use weights only to scope my body. I was on the heavy side growing up. My weight fluctuated. I’m getting ready for summer.

Q:Fantasy: In the movie, “The Fast and the furious-Tokyo Drift,” there was a lot of action. After watching that movie did it make you want to get into your car and drift? Are there any movies that made you wish you were like one of the characters?

A:Tiger Da Writer: No, not that one! I’ve always wanted to be like Spider Man. I looked up to Spider Man. I looked up to Batman and Zack the black Power Ranger as a child. I jumped off of houses, hung on clothes line and jumped on trampolines. My childhood friends and I mimicked kicks in the air. I watched wrestling and made my own championship belt. My favorite action figure was G.I. Joe. ((LOL)) It’s funny now. Steven Seagal was a real bad ass in Marked for Death and Under Siege. I went thru different phases growing up. My imagination was running wild. Once I became an adult I focused my energy on my career.

Fantasy: ok soooo Tiger Da Writer takes a break in the middle of my interview. 0_o to fix a Kroger’s brand of creamy peanut butter & concord grape jelly sandwich on Sarah Lee’s wheat bread!” SMH ((LOL))

Q:Fantasy: When you were attending church when you were a kid… What do you remember? Were you in the choir? Was there a member of the choir that couldn’t sing, but would sing loudly? Did you ever get into trouble in church? What for?

A:Tiger Da Writer: I recall sitting at the back of the church with my friends, writing on the tithe and the offering envelope so that I could sneak out of church first. We passed notes to each other; we were slick.

The old women with the big hats… ((LOL))

The pastor blessed us out one time. He said, “hey you in the back!” ((LOL)) After we got into trouble with pastor we became low key. We would write our notes in a tablet and kick the tablet across the floor to one another. I was in the choir. The choir would person that couldn’t sing in the front row. Gospel music is the only type of music that you can sing off key and people will still say… “baby you’re singing for the Lord!”

Q:Fantasy: If you had to do a movie about your life who would be the characters? Who would play you as a child, teen, now and when you grow older?

A:Tiger Da Writer: As a child Rooster’s son in the movie “Idlewild,” as a teen Tequan Richmond from the show “Everybody Hates Chris,” he reminds me of how I was as a teen. He made the best of his situations. Me now… Big Tigger “Big Tigger Show,” we resemble and he’s about his business, and as an older guy I would have to say the late great Bernie Mac. A lot of traits from “Bernie Mac Show” that would be me; down to earth, funny, hard worker… all around good person.

Q:Fantasy: How do you feel now? Did anyone know of your struggles?

A: You made me tap into old memories that I thought of, yet never really told anyone. To have you ask me those questions… made me reach into my memory bank. I told some people, not 100% in depth. To everyone that’s reading this… “Never take your foot off of the gas.” Always put the pedal to the metal, never take your foot off of the gas it will slow you down. “I encourage you to put the pedal to the medal.” Have unlimited miles to the gallon. Who wants to embark upon this journey with me? If I can change at least one person’s life… “ mission is accomplished.”

Q:Fantasy: Who is Jack Spratt? Where did you grow up? When did your journey begin as a comedian? Are there any other skills that you possess? What are your hobbies?

A:Jack Spratt: Jackyron Welton Newman, a local entertainer in the New Orleans area. I’m happy to be here with Fantasy. I grew up on the west bank of New Orleans. Fantasy: Booooo ((LOL)) Jack Spratt: You have a problem with the west bank? Sometime in 2009, late 2008 is when my journey begun. I wouldn’t really say comedian because I didn’t know how to exactly categorize what I was doing. I’ve been in the music industry since like 2003. I actually started out rhyming, “you know what I’m saying.” Rapping and I evaluated myself… thought I was a pretty good artist, but the music game… the entertainment game period is just so political. I just began to be so frustrated with it and the pressure that they put on you… and you have to be this… and you have to be that and so man… I just got to the point where I just wanted to have fun and do what I wanted to do. A big part of me doing what I was doing was by social networking… Face Book and Twitter. I got on there being a rebel, going against the grain, cutting up all day saying what I felt like totally going against the grain from what a rapper or entertainer is supposed to say; being politically incorrect. Shortly after that I started seeing that the love that I was looking for as a musician it was coming to me on accident, just on accident, just from acting a fool all day. I just was saying what I felt. It was like breathing for me. On the computer I’d say my thoughts, my love, my passion, my joy… people would just gravitate towards me laughing or just feeling me. Believe it or not I don’t really have many hobbies. Some people play pool. I’m a simple guy.

Fantasy: Oh, c’mon you don’t have a stamp collection or an ant farm?? ((LOL))

Jack Spratt: I don’t know who you interviewed, but you’re definitely not gonna get those types of quirks from me. I’m a simply guy. I watch Sports Center, channel 15’s Eye Witness News… make sure I catch everything that happened for the day. I like to be up with current events. I’m pretty much on social networks and I like to listen to music.

Q:Fantasy: Tell me about some of the major projects that you’ve completed that our audience may be unaware of. What new projects are in the works? When you are inside your character Jack Spratt what’s on your mind?

A:Jack Spratt: On the music side… I did my first album in 2005 it’s called “The Wait is Over.” I did another mixtape in late 2008, early 2009 called “Dumb and Dumber.” On the entertainment (more on the comedy side) I have a television show called PP TV (Petite Playboy Television). I have two completed episodes, two completed DVD’s and numerous videos on youtube. I have a new PP TV DVD coming out (PP TV Episode 2.5) My projection for the completion of that project is early January of 2012. It contains new skits, as well as, some of the one’s that are on the internet that people want a hard copy of. On the music side I have a mixtape coming out called “The Genius” which will show people my journey. From when I first started doing comedy and interviewing people up until now. Staying focused! When I’m in character… I’m really in character. People tell me all the time…“man, you look so serious and do you remember me?” like you told me. I’m like ma’am no. I’m just focused on doing my job and I have to train my mind to tune everything out around me. If you don’t know about Jack Spratt “I’m dressed!” A big part of me is costume. “You know what I’m saying.” If you see Jack Spratt you’re seeing something wild.

Fantasy: yeah man, I’ve seen drawls man… I think I’ve probably even seen Bruce Lee before. ((LOL))

Jack Spratt: yeah it’s a lot and of course with that you get a lot of opinions, a lot of comments so I really have to get my mind focused and keep my eyes on the prize. One time I was at Essence and I was interviewing people… I had some underwear on and “this dude called me a fag and I just lost it!” I went crazy and ever since then I had to really… ((LOL)) I had to really get my mind together. I said to myself “ok man you’re out here… people are going to be commenting you have to be mentally stable and stay strong enough not to react and stay focused and do what you’re doing.

Q:Fantasy: You’re known to your fans as Jack Spratt… Where did your alias come from? Why do you think our nicknames are so far from our real names? (i.e. your name is Gary, yet your nickname is Booty or you’re Tiffany, but you’re known as Munchkin) ((LOL)) What are some of the funniest nicknames that you’ve heard thus far?

A:Jack Spratt: Jack Spratt is an old nursery rhyme. I heard it when I was a kid. My grandfather’s name was Jack, my name is Jackyron. Jack is the first four letters of my name so my family’s been calling me Jack for years. When I was writing I couldn’t come up with a rap name. I thought of Jack, Jack Frost, when
I said Jack Spratt it was the best name. It stuck with me and I’ve been running with it ever since. Nicknames are just house hold names man from when you’re a baby. Your family gives you these affectionate names and they stick. Well, to me the funniest nickname is Man-Man. That’s the funniest one. Every time I hear Man-Man that’s just funny to me. Tunie, Doonie, Woonie, “you know what I’m saying?” Boogie, Woogie, Dut, Tut… I’ve hear a lot of them.

Q:Fantasy: The world is an interesting place. It can be cold, lonely and cruel. Racism and prejudice still exists… why? Do you feel that we are dying out as an African American race? Is it due to disease or because we’re mostly saturated with self-hatred? Other races are known to stick together in terms of supporting one another; especially financially… in your opinion, why haven’t we gelled?

A:Jack Spratt: Racism and prejudice has existed since the beginning of time. It dates back to the Isrealites and Palestinians. People get together and say, “alright, we’re alike and they’re different.” They form different opinions and different judgments and they go from there.” What was the question again? ((LOL)) I go off on tangents sometimes. Fantasy: racism and prejudice still exists… why? Jack Spratt: Some of it is ignorance… some of it is fear. Some people have the complex whereas they have to step on other people to make themselves feel greater or better. I still think that it all comes down to ignorance. It depends on how you look at it. We definitely have to be the most violent race of people in America. I don’t hear of Chinese people getting into gun fights or any other race inflicting so much violence on one another like we do. I won’t say that we’re going extinct, but I will most definitely say that we need the lord to touch our race in order to stop some of the foolishness that’s going on. I think it’s a combination of things. I was going to say that it’s in part due to self hatred and ignorance. When I say ignorance I mean as far as disease and cholesterol and breast cancer. We need to know about things as such, as a people, and exercise early detection. We need to be educated more. We’re perishing due to a lack of knowledge as a people and self hatred. We don’t really support our own businesses like we should. Meanwhile, there’s a Brother’s in every hood and we support them. There are Urban clothing stores, owned by Arabs, we support that. We have people who take our recipes for seafood and do it better than us and we support that. As a people we don’t follow our entrepreneurial spirits as we should and the few of us that do… we don’t get enough. I’d have to go back to self hatred. It has to. It’s like we’re trained to not wanna see one another prosper or do well and that’s especially in New Orleans. For some reason this is the ultimate crab in the barrel place. If you can make it here you really can make it anywhere. They say that about New York, but New York has whey more resources that we have. It’s a big disparity in New Orleans between the have’s and have not’s; a big difference.

Q:Fantasy: The word love is a strong word that should have no limit. I feel that if the world had more of it… it would be a better place. Do you feel that it is possible for all races to unite in the name of love… in our lifetime? What would be the first step toward achieving this? What would be the last?

A:Jack Spratt: I mean thru God Anything is possible, but I don’t thinks it’s going happen. I don’t even think it’s about racism. I think it’s about the heart of people; to me I see the true and untrue, the good VS. the evil. If everybody’s good… there’s no battle. It’s the Lord VS. the devil. They don’t have hands and feet; they interact thru people. The Lord uses people, the devil uses people. Every body uniting in love? I mean… I believe that it’s possible because the Lord tells us that all things are possible, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

Q:Fantasy: Our president is black. Presidents are said to be elected by the people and for the people. Why do you feel that President Barack Obama’s approval rating has decreased? If you were his advisor what steps would you advise him to take in order to get re- elected?

A:Jack Spratt: I’m going to be honest with you. He’s definitely better than his predecessor. I believe that it’s also a lot of… a lot of things that he promised when he ran that he still hasn’t done yet. He was like “I’m about to bring the troops home… the troops are coming home;” he just about to bring them home now and he’s about to get out of office. I’m like man what’s going on? That war was like millions and millions of dollars or whatever they were saying. So… and then you know by him being an African- American president… I mean even if he was a white man the republican’s would be on him. I believe it’s intensified because he is a black man. I believe that racism and bigotry does exist. It plays a part in his presidency, but at the same time I’m not going to just give him a pass. You gotta do what you said you were going to do. I do think that they over react sometimes and they don’t give him enough slack, but umm I’m happy for him, ((LOL)) but I’m sure he knew what he was getting in to. To me in anything that you do it’s all about sincerity and integrity. I don’t care if you made a mistake, if you did something wrong, just admit it, discuss it with people, and let them go from there. If you’re trying to politic and bullsh%t I think people could just see thru it. People already expect that from politicians and I think the reason that he won is because he tapped into that. He tapped into… you know he was so sincere and he had integrity and people felt the basis that he was running on. Man I feel it in my heart it was like change, I believe, yes. He was very practical. Sometimes I listen to presidential speeches and I don’t understand the terminology. He broke it down just like Bill Clinton both of those were down to earth, down home gentlemen who broke everything down in Layman’s terms and really got you up to speed instead of talking over your head.

Q:Fantasy: Reading is fundamental! You’re called to substitute for a second grade class… your instructions are to select a book that is fun, educates the students about history and aids them in understanding the difference between right and wrong? What’s the title of this book? Why is it your top choice? What has it taught you? What did your teachers instill in you as a child; that you’ll carry with you for the rest of your life?

A:Jack Spratt: “Choices” I feel that everything that we do comes down to choices; choices and decisions that we make. That’s really what wisdom is. You could have knowledge, but when you have wisdom you know what choices to make. To me life is all about choices… all about choices. “Choices?” ok… It’s a real book? ((LOL)) I remember as a child reading wasn’t my… When you’re a kid you’re not like “hey man let’s go read a book!” you’re like lets go out and shoot ball. As a child reading wasn’t my uh… a great deal of stuff that I learned was by television documentaries. The main thing I used to read at my school was the weekly reader. I read a lot, but it was assignments at school because I did so much. I was a very good student; honor student all thru out high school and everything. I thought that reading was a skill; I apologize it’s not one of my hobbies. I read what I liked to read. I read about sports all day, certain politics. I like to read about history too. Don’t be lazy. I’ve heard this all my life. You have a lot of potential and it’s going to be up to you as to whether or not you live up to it.

Q:Fantasy: Give your top ten list of the greatest scary films of all time? Who makes the final cut; on your top five list of favorite MC’s? Which MC, out of the five selected, is your ultimate favorite? Why?

A:Jack Spratt: I want ya’ll to know that I’m terrified of scary movies. I don’t enjoy being scared. I’m older now… so I just choose not to watch them all together. I can give you five of course, #1 Nightmare On Elm Street #2 Halloween #3 the Exorcist #4 Entity #5 Friday the 13th and Dress to Kill. I get nervous talking about them. There’s a lot of different factors that I weigh into selecting my top 5 MC’s. It isn’t just talent. It’s individual… everybody likes what they like. I like rappers who make you feel; their words just stir you up. I’d just be like he nice. He’s a real nice MC. Of course I like Jay- Z, Nas, DMX, Beanie Sigel, and Tupac. I would have to say that Tupac is my favorite. He’s like the perfect cross section of a real human. People was like, “man he was confused,” but that’s just the essence of human existence; the spirit VS. the flesh. He always spoke from the heart. Either he was like I love you or kiss my ass. He just always spoke from a sincere part in him and that’s what you have to respect. Like… Biggie was good, but at the end of the day Biggie just stood for money clothes, and hoes. If you go back and watch the Pac interviews… he was really trying to change a generation. He was trying to change album sales into votes and the real power. Nobody else is doing it. I never really seen it done on that scale before. They had people that was trying, but not like Tupac.

Q:Fantasy: When I was a kid I recall teaming up with my friends and pretending that we were in a group. We were Xscape… sliding across the floor in our socks, singing on hair brushes. ((LOL)) Did you have a group of pals that you did crazy things with? How much of you as a child has rubbed off on your children?

A:Jack Spratt: When I was growing up the group to be was New Edition. New edition was the hottest thing going. I was Ronnie Devoe he wasn’t even one of the popular ones he turned out to be popular later on when BBD came out. He was just a dude with a jherri curl back then. My kids are so young right now. My daughter she’s three. I’m just starting to see her personality she’s wide open. She’s like a practical joker. My son just started walking. He’s not even talking yet. I think he’s gonna be wild. He’s wild just like me; just all over the place. He’s a live wire.

Q:Fantasy: Being in the entertainment industry means constantly grinding. On average, how many hour of sleep do you get per day? Do you see this changing anytime soon? How do you feel after being interviewed? How much closer do you feel it will bring you to your fans/supporters?

A:Jack Spratt: On average I get between 3 to 5 or 3 to 6 hours of sleep. It’s getting slimmer. That number is slimming down to probably 3 to 4. It’s because of my schedule. I work an 8 to 5 job and I’m Jack Spratt the entertainer in all of the subsequent hours; all of the hours in between. I feel relieved. I feel like somebody’s asking me some questions and wants to know how I feel about some things. That’s a good feeling; especially if I answered the questions the way that I would like to, confidently. I get my point across well. I’ve never really been asked these types of questions that caused my mind to answer some of these topics. I hope that everything that I’ve said shows a different side of me and will give them more insight on me as a person and not just the person that they see in videos and on pictures; the actual mind of Jack Spratt.

Q:Fantasy: Who is Director Will Horton? Growing up… which area of New Orleans did you call home? What type of kids did you hang out with? Were you a good kid?

A:Director Will Horton: Will Horton is a visual storyteller and a student and fan of knowledge. You can never have too much, of both.

I grew up in the Hollygrove area of New Orleans between Interstate 10 and Airline Drive where the new Job Corps building is located. It’s a small community. Back then, everybody knew EVERYBODY. You always had an extended family for support and rearing. I remember on my route walking to elementary school every morning, the neighbor Mr. Brule’ would quiz me on my timetables. (chuckles) Very humble beginnings. If you played football, then we were instant friends. Schoolyard tackle football before NORD Playground sports was my thing, until I tried a shot at break dancing. (chuckles) Unfortunately, when the crack epidemic struck the city, I lost many childhood friends to violence. I still appreciate the memories and fun moments of being kids with them. I was quiet and soft spoken as a kid, always observing and surveying my environment. The invaluable lessons learned growing up in the hood teaches you to be resourceful and deal with adversity. When my friends and I didn’t have the money to buy what we wanted, we would build it ourselves. Be it a wooden scooter constructed from 2X4 boards and skate wheels or a pinball machines with a piece of plywood, nails, rubber bands, and a cat eye marble as the ball, we made the best of what we had at the moment. That McGuyver-esque aptitude transcended into my professional career when I worked on low budget projects.

I was a very inquisitive kid. I think that’s a good thing. (laughing)

Q:Fantasy: In your opinion…were your parents strict? When you caught woopings… as you screamed to the top of your lungs whose name did you call out (daddy, grandma or Jesus)? Have you ever been asked to bring your mother a switch from the tree or had an object thrown at you? Did you catch woopings____________. A: extension cords, B:fresh out of the bath tub with a leather belt or telephone wire, a Daniel green slipper, whatever your mama could get her hands on. Do you feel that these particular methods of discipline were effective? Would they help today’s children?

A: Director Will Horton: According to my parents, I was a sneaky kid who dodged whoopings by covering up my evidence. For example, I blew a wall plug once by attempting to remove a stuck cord from an electric socket with a steak knife. I quickly wiped the black soot from the socket and then tossed the frayed knife on the roof before my dad got home from work. I didn’t tell him until after college. (chuckles) I watched my older siblings and cousins get whoopings all the time. So when my grandmother stared at me with a look that pierced through my soul, I knew I’d better reassess my situation at the moment. (laughing)

Whatever method of punishment parents use today should include positive reinforcement. Back then, we were scared straight by the power of vested in the the belt, extension cord, switch, etc. (chuckles)

Q:Fantasy: You have students… what are they like? What about their personalities do you recognize within yourself… when you were their age? Who was your favorite high school teacher? As children we all have a secret crush… who was yours? What did you do to get her to notice you?

A:Director Will Horton: : My students are awesome. What I recognize and identify with is the passion in their eyes for visual arts. They are first and second year college students who already know what career path they want to travel. You can’t ask for a better group of young individuals to help guide.

Every classroom I sat in while attending John F. Kennedy High School in New Orleans housed my favorite teacher.

In elementary school, I had a huge childhood crush on my 4th grade classmate Ametriaus. I bought her a red faux leather wallet as a surprise Christmas gift to get her attention. It didn’t work. My swag starter kit needed a boost. (laughs)

Q:Fantasy: ? When did you begin filming? Did you ever imagine just how much spreading your passions would impact so many?

A:Director Will Horton: I owe an innumerable amount of gratitude to Bill Scallan, my high school Television instructor, for placing the first video camera in my hand. I was just a young kid practicing what I love to do. It wasn’t until later when students would approach me and acknowledge that I am “the reason they enrolled in film school.” Actor Anthony Mackie stopped by my house (the day before he left the city to enroll in Julliard Arts School in New York) to tell me that my short film “The Wake Up Call” helped influence his passion for acting. Chike Ozah (Director of Kanye West’s “Through the Fire” music video) mentioned that he studied my music videos while in college.

I always advise teens that I mentor “be mindful of your actions, because you never know who’s watching you.”

Q:Fantasy: For our audience members that have seen your work and had no idea that it was yours… lets jog down memory lane for a second and scratch the surface of some of those projects if you will .

A:Director Will Horton: Since pursuing my passion, I always wanted to be considered as a total filmmaker – not just a music video director or a cameraman. If a story is to be told visually, then I wanted to have the ability to take on any genre of the medium. My first music video that I solely directed was the late G-Slimm’s “Fours, Deuces, and Treys”. My first short film was “The Wake Up Call”, an international award winning film. My first documentary was “The Million Man March.”, winner of the 1996 Cable Ace Award. I received a gold record for my work on Master P’s “Ice Cream Man” music commemorating the sales of the album of the same name. Mystikal’s “Ya’ll Aint Ready Yet” and “Here I Go” music videos displayed my directorial work as well. I wrote and co-directed, with Dale Restighini, D.J. Unk’s “2 Step” music video.

Q:Fantasy: The word “director” has a nice ring to it and your resume’ is extensive. Some of your film and video production credits include clients as such as Harpo Productions, R.C. Cola, No Limit Records, American Cancer Society, Essence, Partners for Healthy Babies, and the list goes on. What would you consider to be your top three favorite projects? (i.e. music videos, concert, movie, etc.)

A: Director: Will Horton: (laughs) With over 300 projects under my belt, it would be hard to choose 50, not to mention 3. I can take pride in knowing that with each project, I did my best and, even though many have noticed a “Will Horton” style in my work, I made sure each concept was fresh and catered to the clients needs.

Q:Fantasy: “Armed With A Heart” made it to B.E.T.’s Lens on Talent. Was the submission of this project difficult? Where did the title come from? Do you plan to create an actual movie using the footage that has been released thus far?

A:Director Will Horton: “Learn to write your own screenplays” was the advice that I received from film director John Singleton when I met him on Tulane’s campus. It wasn’t until grad school that I actually picked up a pen, and the new journey began. Armed with a Heart is my MFA graduate thesis film from the University of New Orleans. It’s based on an original screenplay that I wrote and directed. The Lens On Talent competition was very competitive. Unlike a local film festival, I was competing with filmmakers from across the U.S. With the help of my online supporters, at the competition’s end, Armed with a Heart received the most views by a 400 click lead. My film can be seen online on both BET and Centric’s websites.

  http://www.bet.com/video/lensontalent/season2shortfilms/armed-with-a-heart-10-6-10-230092.html

I’ve been approached by several film companies and distributors to create a feature from the story.

Q:Fantasy: As a visual storyteller when you open your eyes to each new day what do you see? What do you day dream about? What makes all of the difference in the world?

A:Director Will Horton: Once the film bug bites you, you no longer view the world through the same lens as an audience. Ask any lady I’ve dated (while in college) if they were annoyed by my analysis and dissecting of films on a movie date. (chuckles) As a writer/director, I view the cinematic language as an untouched stone languishing in hopes of being inscribed with new dialects that lie dormant within the filmmaker’s conscious. Armed with the tools of the trade, the filmmaker must find new ways to communicate a well thought out concept in a way that maintains the identity of his single voice. With that being said, there’s a story with every glance out of my bedroom or car window. The key is telling it in an interesting way —that makes sense. What makes a difference in the world to me is when my work is not just watched, but discussed as well.

Q:Fantasy: You’re being nominated at this year’s Nola Hip Hop Awards. You’re receiving a lifetime achievement award how does it make you feel to add another award to your collection? Do you feel that all of your hard work is finally paying off?

A:Director Will Horton: It’s always rewarding to receive a nod for a project that you know you put your best effort towards. The NOLa Hip Hop Lifetime Achievement Award is special to me, because it confirms that my body of work, in totality, has made and continues to make an impact in the recording industry. My hard work paid off the first time someone walked up to me and shook my hand for a job well done. Since then, I strive to be better.

Q:Fantasy: What advice can you give to aspiring directors and everyone that looks up to you and desires to be a part of the entertainment and arts industry? What do you want to be remembered for? How do you feel after being interviewed

A:Director: I would offer that aspiring filmmakers continue to practice their craft. Don’t get caught up in the digital technology. The art of storytelling is a constant and was here long before us. If you can complete a sentence, you can make a film.

Remember me as the guy who took on a recording industry that wasn’t “South friendly” and supplied professional quality images to accompany your favorite artists. Remember me as the filmmaker whose films spoke beyond the story lines and gave a commentary on life’s issues. Remember me as the grandson, son, nephew, brother, teacher, mentor, friend who never hesitated to help someone in need. But, most of all, remember me as the little kid from Hollygrove who followed his passion by using his talents given from our Heavenly Father. This has been the most in depth interview on me. Keiani Model Management couldn’t have picked a better interviewer I enjoy the work that you guys do. Continue the blessings.

Q:Fantasy: Who is Dj Bomshell Boogie? At what point in your life, did you realize that you possessed enough talent to become a professional female mixologist? How long have you been a Dj and how does it make you feel? What inspires you?

A:Dj Bomshell Boogie: A black girl from New Orleans that loves music who found a way to make a career in it. I didn’t have anyone to show me. When I first purchased my turntables I would practice four hours a day, five days a week. I spent all of my money on turntables, but I just couldn’t get the hang (grasp the skill) of mixing. I felt as if I had wasted my money. I practiced and practiced. I got better… I began to learn more about myself, my hands and about the different sounds the records would make underneath my fingertips when I scratched. I soon realized that I had learned how to mix. Some of the first records that I mixed were “Seven Minutes of Funk” By: Eric B & Rakim, “Renee” By: The Lost Boyz and “Don’t make me over” By: Sybil. I was practicing and building my library. I got lost at record stores for hours; I wanted the “throw back jams!” I met Dj Real while he was Dj’ing at the Shiloh. By that time I had been mixing for three years. I told him that I’ve been doing my thing at home and he said that I should spin in front of a live audience. I had my crate with all of my records in order. Mixing in front of the audience broke my fears because the audience was happy. They said that I was good. Once I received that great response from the audience… I that I had an amazing gift. Dj’ing will forever be a learning process and I’m still learning. This would still be my hobby even if I weren’t a professional.

When I Dj… it’s better than sex. It gives me an adrenaline rush… especially when I get the crowd hype. I love to display my style by doing tricks and getting energy from the audience. I literally get off on it. It’s so orgasmic. My first event was at The Dragon’s Den. People were really having a great time I lost my mind! I got so hype of off the energy that I couldn’t sleep… it’s a connection between my art, myself and the audience.

:Fantasy: #orgasmic #really??? 0_o ((LOL))

Q:Fantasy: How was life growing up? Where did you grow up and what schools did you attend? What’s your fondest childhood memory?

A:Dj Bomshell Boogie: Life growing up was interesting. I was a child in a situation. I went from house to house and lived with different people. I lived with both of my grandmothers and my best friend. I grew up in Gentilly, the 9th ward and 12th ward. There was no stability. Because of those experiences… I knew that I didn’t want to live a life as such. It made me want so much more for myself. I was on my own by the age of 17. God protected me. I could’ve met some one that wanted to take advantage of me. God kept me. I was blessed. I attended Claiborne Elementary School, St. Mary’s Academy and Mc Donough 35. During my time at St. Mary’s I worked to keep up with the tuition and always got suspended because I wanted to be different. My hair was different and my clothes were different. I got expelled from St. Mary’s and went to 35. At Mc Donough 35 I had the best experience ever. . I could be myself and exist. My mom had pulled away from me at this point, yet I was shown all of the love that I didn’t get at home. My fondest childhood memory was laughing with my cousins. Those jokes were funny it was an uncontrollable laughter.

Q:Fantasy: As a child what did you aspire to be when you grew up? What other skills do you possess?

A:Dj Bomshell Boogie: I wanted to be a fashion designer. I love to sketch. I still dream about it a little bit. I drew in class. I went to college and studied English Literature. I love to write and will write a book on my experience as a Dj someday. I help write resumes’ and I proofread. I went to Stevenson’s school of cosmetology. “I was good at doing hair, but I hated it!” I taught other students practical techniques. I applied for a job at Macy’s in the New Orleans Center. I had never done make up in my life, but successfully landed a job at the Lancome Paris counter. I was moved to the Lakeside Shopping center location. I learned techniques by watching other make-up artists. I worked in a salon for a few months after becoming a MAC make-up artist, one of the single best experiences in my life, I Dj’ ed on the side. I met some great friends at MAC. Some days I didn’t know how I was gonna pay my bills… working as an artist for MAC helped me meet people. I did both make up and Dj’ ing from ages 18-26.

Q:Fantasy: What’s your favorite song? How does it relate to you?

A:Dj Bomshell Boogie: “Get By” By: Talib Kweli it has a Nina Simone sample in it.
It’s one of my all time favorites. It makes you feel good to get by… Talib rapping, Kanye West on the beat and Nina Simone.

Q:Fantasy: What do you love most about life?

A:Dj Bomshell Boogie: The ever-growing process of learning… I learn about life as I live it. I never want to be stagnant. I hope to learn something new every day as I grow older.

Q:Fantasy: How does your audiences response make you feel? What are some of the most memorable things that your fans have said to you?

A:Dj Bomshell Boogie: My fans ride for me. I play music… I’m a catalyst. The responses are overwhelming. People tell me that they love me or that they love all of my mix tapes. It makes me humble. I feel so blessed. I do it all for them. Knowing that they support me keeps me relevant and keeps me growing. My fans have been my motivation thru some of my toughest times. It’s as if they come thru for me whenever I’m going thru something (i.e. face book comments, etc.)

Q:Fantasy: If you could rewrite the history of African-Americans what would you change about our past? why?

A:Dj Bomshell Boogie: We focused so much on integrating that we lost sight of our own cohesiveness as a people. I’m totally for fighting against Jim Crow, the KKK (Klu Klux Klan) and police brutality. As some people left our communities and movewd into elite communities it led to a crystallization of our ghetto. I wish that we would’ve created better communities for ourselves instead of creating others. The interpretation of the Civil Rights Movement vs. the truth from those who were actually a part of it differed.

Q:Fantasy: If you could run for political office what would you choose to become? What’s the first thing that you would change about the world?

A:Dj Bomshell Boogie: I can’t see myself running for office. I feel that no one cares about social change or real issues… it’s more of a career move.

Q:Fantasy: You’re on your way to the biggest gig of your career and about five minutes away from your exit… in the car in front of you the driver has a seizure then the car suddenly catches a fire, in the car next to you a man is threatening to shoot his wife and son, then turn the gun on himself. What do you do?

A: Do you keep going

B: Do you help the person next to you?

C: Do you help the person in front of you?

A:Dj Bomshell Boogie: You never know what you’d do until you get in that situation. I just don’t know. Sometimes we are capable of doing things when we’re in certain situations that we never knew we were capable of doing. I would help anyone that needs my help no matter the cost. I don’t know how I would help, but I would. “What I do for myself… I would do for my brother.”

Q:Fantasy: How do you feel after being interviewed? How do you think you fans will feel about you after reading this? How do you feel about sharing your total self with me?

A:Dj Bomshell Boogie: This was a good interview… it was cool. I was asked some things that I’ve never been asked before. I hope that this interview gives my supporters a little more insight as to who I am as a person… behind my craft. I am who I am… I can’t change that. I offer what I offer to the world. I would like to make an impact withinthe lives of others. I feel that we were all put on Earth to share the light that lives within us. I want to do good and make contributions to the world before I die.

Q:Fantasy: Who is Strait Jigg?

A:Strait Jigg: Srait Jigg is a young dude that’s destined for greatness. I’m on a mission. People see me as a promoter and Twitter head. I started off as a rapper. I’ve been called Jigg ever since I was a kid. The nick name came from my big brother Snoop. I wanted to be an original and straight up… “Strait Jigg!” I do what I do for the people around me. When you find something you love… you stick with it. This is bigger than being famous. I live day to day. I don’t walk into a boardroom and change clothes. I’m a rapper and promoter. Myself and Da U Boys put in work. We get our own music to the radio stations, etc.

Q:Fantasy: How was your childhood?

A:Strait Jigg: Paycheck to paycheck. I shared a room with my two brothers. We barely had a car because my dad drove it to work. We caught the bus, most of the time, we never had too much. My mother worked and went to school. She eventually dropped out of Delgado to support us.

Q:Fantasy: Did you have sibling rivalries? How was life in Holly Grove (17th ward)? Are you currently residing there?

A:Strait Jigg: I fought the youngest and the oldest! ((LOL)) They would team up on me. Every summer we would be home alone wildin’ out(acting crazy and out of control). I remember my oldest brother and I would fight and one time he got the best of me… I got mad and threw a screwdriver at him It got stuck in the door. Had he not run… I probably would’ve hurt him. It’s funny now. ((LMAO)) The 17th was fun when I was a kid. As kids we play sun up to sun down without a care in the world. Ever since hurricane Katrina no one comes out anymore. There’s whey too much crime, drugs and too many people getting shot. When someone gets killed… weighs heavily on your mind and heart just for a day and then it’s gone. Four of my potnas (friends) were killed and my cousin too… just last week.

Q:Fantasy: What do you say to individuals who believe that in order to be a successful rapper from New Orleans that you must move out of state? Do you feel that once an artists’ career blows up that he/she becomes a target for hatred and violence?

A:Strait Jigg: There’s a lot of truth to it, but everyone doesn’t need to move out of state in order to make it in the music business, but if you blow up you can become a target. Especially if people feel that you are wealthy. If you stay home and put it down from home, home will back you as long as you keep it real for our city. Some folks leave the city and become world reknown talent then abandon home.

Never distance yourself from your people. Remember where you came from. Da U Boys won’t leave in order to blow up (become famous). If someone wants to fly us out of town we welcome it.

Q:Fantasy: You’re given the microphone… you’re doing a worldwide broadcast; if you could do one thing to change people’s way of thinking in terms of their feelings on where we are headed as a race***one way ticket to the middle of no where*** what would you say to them that may prevent them from being “stinking in their thinking?”

A:Strait Jigg: Black people of the world we know plenty of black men that have been shot down and murdered in our streets. Our ancestors were enslaved some of us are enslaved mentally to date. Love your brother… he may be a stranger, but love him as if he’s your biological brother. Treat others the way that you want to be treated. Have respect for everyone. Most of our disagreements stem from the things that we lack… money in particular. The love of money is the root of all evil. As a race, to the rest of the world we’re viewed as the bottom of the barrel. Everything may not happen in our time but we have to keep the faith.

Q:Fantasy: How do you feel when you write music? Do you stick to a ritual? What inspires you?

A:Strait Jigg: It depends on how the beat makes me feel. Whenever I think of certain situations in life I jot them down in my cell. I used to write in my notebook, but technology has changed everything. Other people’s lives and everyday conversations inspire me. I love visual art. I can stare at a painting and my imagination goes wild.

Q:Fantasy: Is Straig Jigg single… if so, why are you single? What’s your ideal mate? Most people feel that artists have groupies… what is a groupie vs. a fan/supporter?

A:Strait Jigg: I have no attachment. Some people like to believe that I am not single, but I am. I don’t need anyone I’m not lonely. I don’t know of any females that I want to be around enough to take it to the next level. I just want someone who’s fun. My ideal woman is “Fantasy!” ((LOL)) I’ve met a lot of girls that want to rock with me, yet they won’t support my music. I need a woman that will be about me 100% most females just want D@%*. Groupies don’t care about you or your music. They don’t care about what you’re doing… only that you’re doing it so they throw themselves at you. My fans and supporters know me as an artist. They want me to succeed and they will help you in any way that they can. They know who you are and will approach you wanting to have an in depth conversation about what you do.

Q:Fantasy: What was you favorite cartoon when you were a kid? Which character from that particular cartoon is a lot like you? Why?

A:Strait Jigg: ((LMAO)) Hahahahaaaa Wow! My favorite cartoon was Dragon Ball Z. I would say that I’m a lot like Gohan. His daddy was the man with everything. Everyone wanted Gohan to be like his dad… his dad was a gangster! My older brother was the first child, nephew and grandson so I felt that I had big shoes to fill for a little while. I was Gohan and he was Gohan’s father. Once I got older I began to rap, organize and promote music. I go hard so I am a lot like Gohan.

Q:Fantasy: You are known as the Twitter King and Retweet King. Why? How do you feel about the creator of Twitter? Do you miss Myspace? Is Facebook good for networking?

A:Strait Jigg: I was bored… smart phones are the reason for that. I talk to most of the people on my time line and gain more followers because of it. I RT Da U Boys as well as other artists music. I joined Twitter back in February of “09” and I was feeling it since day one. He’s a “G”(gangster) and a beast(mastermind) and he needs to #followback ((LOL)). I have music to send him. I haven’t seen a social network like Myspace since “Myspace.” Through Myspace you can market and promote yourself very well and get connected. There was a music player that played where your fans could listen to your as soon as they visited page. They could leave comments and view your pictures instantly. People were on Myspace daily. You could create a background. It was like having your own personal website. Da U Boys received a great deal of exposure from creating a Myspace profile. On Facebook people don’t add you unless they know you, but on Myspace you could add everyone.

Q:Fantasy: How do you feel after being interviewed?

A:Strait Jigg: I feel good! Thank you for reaching out to me and taking the time out to get to know Strait Jigg. We touched on a lot things… there are somethings that people didn’t know about me. I hope that everyone reading this interview follows us on Twitter @straitjigg @dauboys. I write for N.O 2 B. R. The Heat Magazine(The Heat Online) and I have a blog Like A Big dog. Be on the look out for our album it drops on September 20th. It will be available for purchase on Itunes and amazon.com. Da U Boys would love to be granted the opportunity to work with Director Will Horton and the Keiani Models.
